There are n<\/span>early 400 recognized breeds and varieties of poultry existing, including large fowl and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hobbyfarms.com\/5-bantam-chickens-perfect-for-your-small-backyard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bantam chickens<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hobbyfarms.com\/ducks-can-bring-real-value-to-the-backyard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ducks<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hobbyfarms.com\/geese-as-guard-animals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">geese<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hobbyfarms.com\/interested-raising-turkeys-learn-from-turkey-tales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">turkeys<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hobbyfarms.com\/getting-guineas-train-them-right\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guinea fowl<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Araucana Chicken Facts<\/span><\/h2>\n<h4>Chicken &amp; Egg Colors<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0Araucanas come in a variety of colors \u2014 white, black, black-breasted red, golden duckwing and silver duckwing.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">Blue chicken eggs are popular and the Araucana is considered the original layer of blue eggs. This breed gave way to other blue-egg-laying chickens such as Ameraucanas and Easter Eggers. Its unique blue-green eggs are a result of the breed\u2019s genetics.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Araucana Chicken Origins<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">Araucanas are native to Chile and were first discovered by Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s2\">According to The Araucana Club of America, the Araucana originated in an area of Chile controlled by Araucana Indians. The breed was first imported to the U.S. in the 1930s.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Araucana Features<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">This unusual breed is rumpless (aka having no tail) and lacks a tailbone and oil (or preen) gland.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">One of the most striking features of this breed is its ear tufts, which are a feather or group of feathers coming out of the sides of the bird\u2019s face around the ear area.
